Talk and Food

Allan Jenkins is editor of Observer Food Monthly. He was previously editor of the Observer Magazine, food and drink editor on the Independent newspaper and once lived in an experimental eco-community on Anglesey, growing organic food on the edge of the Irish sea.

For the Observer Food Monthly editor, who was raised in children’s homes and foster care, growing food and flowers has been his saving and his solace. In his garden journal cum memoir, extracted here, he unearths his roots.

What is the evening about

Upon arrival a glass of wine or beer will be offered. To begin with, Allan will present his book and talk about his journey. Then we'll eat. We'll be serving tasty soup and bread for everyone, and, needless to say, it will all be homemade.

We'll then proceed to the second half of the evening, a moderated Q&A session, which could perhaps fade into a more private discussion over a couple of more beers or glasses of wine. Our bar will stay open until 11pm, so you can keep discussing with Carolyn, the new people you've met or the friends and colleagues you've brought along.

Foredrag og Mad

Allan Jenkins er redaktør på Observer Food Monthly. Han har førhen fungeret som redaktør på Observer Magazine, redaktør på mad- og drikkesektionen på avisen The Independent. Desuden har han boet i et eksperimentelt økosamfund på øen Anglesey, hvor han dyrkede økologiske råvarer med udsigt til Det Irske Hav.

Hvad handler aftenen om

Ved ankomst tilbyder vi et glas vin eller øl. Til at starte med vil Allan præsentere sin bog og snakke om hans rejse. Derefter spiser vi. Vi vil servere lækker suppe med brød til alle, og det hele vil naturligvis være hjemmelavet.

Derefter tager vi hul på anden halvdel af aftenen, med en Q&A session med Allan, som forhåbentligt kan flyde over i en mere uformel diskussion over nogle flere glas vin eller øl. Baren vil være åben til kl. 23, så du kan fortsætte snakken med Allan, de nye mennesker du har mødt eller de venner og kollegear du har taget med.
