THE MUSIC OF DIONNE WARWICK, BURT BACHARACH & HAL DAVID

COPENHAGEN National Museum

Thu 26 Apr 20:30

The Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective in association with Wallengren Music and Theatre Management proudly presents the THE MUSIC OF DIONNE WARWICK, BURT BACHARACH & HAL DAVID at the National Museum of Denmark on Thursday April 26th at 8:30 PM

One of music history's most enduring stars, pop/soul legend Dionne Warwick, had her first hit in 1962 with the song "Don't Make Me Over" written by composer Burt Bacharach and lyricist Hal David. This marked the beginning of a long-lasting collaboration between the three, which yielded some of the best pop music of the sixties and seventies - and numerous accolades, including more than 50 hits on the American Billboard charts, multiple Grammy Awards plus collaborations with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Gladys Knight, Barry Gibb, Frank Sinatra and of course Dionne Warwick's famous niece, Whitney Houston.

Bacharach had come up with an unorthodox style all his own that could be embraced literally by everyone from teenagers to oldsters and Dionne Warwick became the golden muse for one of the most prolific and all-embracing songwriting teams who shaped the music of their time. Songs like "Walk On By", "I Say A Little Prayer", "Close To You", "Heartbreaker", "That’s What Friends Are For", "Message To Michael", "This Girl’s In Love With You", "Do You Know The Way To San Jose", "I Will Never Fall In Love Again", "Alfie", "The Look Of Love" and "Any One Who Had A Heart" have become iconic songs, largely because of Dionne Warwick.

Don't hesitate to join our celebration of Dionne Warwick, Burt Bacharach and Hal David and journey with us through our favorites songs of theirs, in special renditions performed by four of our top artists here at the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective, including the incredible American vocalist Leandra McNair who is based in New York but who many Copenhageners have previously had the opportunity to experience at the now defunct The Standard Jazz Club in Havnegade. She will be joined by American drummer Victor Jones, renowned for his long-standing collaboration with Stan Getz, Brazilian bassist Romulo Durate who is also well-known by Copenhagen audiences from concerts with Camille Sledge and Daniel Rolim, and last but not least, Swedish pianist Calle Brickman, who has also been closely associated with The Standard Jazz Club.

Line-up:

Leandra McNair (vocal)
Calle Brickman (piano)
Romulo Duarte (bass)
Victor Jones (drums)

Concert starts at 8:30 PM
Concert duration 75 minutes.
Doors open 30 minutes in advance.
