Carlos, Thomas and Niels have met each other earlier, playing in various constellations on tours in Brazil, Denmark and Japan, but this evening at Tango Y Vinos, will be their first performance as a trio. The repertoire will be a mix of their own tunes as well as some standards.
They will be playing some jazz, a little bit of Brazilian, a touch of funk and first of all they’ll be having a lot of fun!
Carlos Ezequiel is from Sao Paulo, Brazil. He holds a busy schedule and has been touring with various group around the Globe. He is a teacher at the Souza Lima Conservatory in Brazil, and has been conducting clinics at many schools in Europe and Asia.
Carlos has played in the United States, Europe, Argentina, Peru, and all over Brazil. He participated in festivals such as the COPENHAGEN WINTER JAZZ FESTIVAL 2010 (Denmark), MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL (Switzerland), Schelde Jazz Festival (Holland), Festival de Jazz de La Plata (Argentina), Cascavel Jazz Festival (Brazil), Best of Berklee 2000 (United States), among others. As a sideman he has performed with American artists KURT ROSENWINKEL and DAVID LIEBMAN, with European artists RONAN GUILFOYLE, PEKKA PYLKKANEN, Greg Burk, Thomas Walbum and Thomas Fonnesbaek, and with Brazilian artists SIZÃO MACHADO, Nelson Faria, Rogério Souza, Daniel D’Alcântara, and Jurandir Santana.
Thomas Walbum (piano), has toured the world extensively (Europe, Japan, Brazil, China, Australia, USA), searching for collaborations with musicians from cultures quite different to his own.
In 2001 he released his debut album ’Boston’, featuring drummer Joe Hunt and bassist John Lockwood.
In 2009 Thomas toured Brazil with the Grammy nominated Brazilian group ’Sinequanon’.
In 2010 the ‘Walbum/Maintz Brazilian Quintet’, featuring three Brazilian musicians, went on a Brazilian tour and recorded an album consisting of all original material. The album will be released in the summer of 2012.
He has toured Japan four times in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 with his own trio and with the Pekka Pylkkänen Quartet.
He holds a Master’s Degree from Berklee/Boston Conservatory in Boston, USA, as well as a degree from The Rhythmic Conservatory of Music, Copenhagen, Denmark.
Niels Ryde entered the Danish jazz scene in the mid-eighties with a new personal sound and approach on the bass, he soon became a member of different jazz/funk groups, and started his own group in 88. Since then he has been one of the most sought-after musicians on the Danish as well as the International Jazz scene. Played and toured with : Lew Soloff(US), Wolfgang Muthspiel(Au), Ben Monder(us), Orazio Maugeri(It), Siggi Flossason(is), Doug Raney(US), Krister Jönsson(S), Basiru Suso(mali), Pierre Dørge& (NJO)(DK), John Tchicai(US), Butch Lacy(US), James Loveless Funk Band(US/DK), Marc Bernstein (US Pirre Dørge, Uffe Steen Jensen, Carsten Dahl, Anders Mogensen, Søren Bebe, Thor Madsen, Kasper Tranberg, Palle Torp, Christoffer Sten Møller, Niels Vincentz, Jesper Lovedale, Thomas Frank among others. And does clinics and workshops throughout Europe..
