Tucked three steps down in a basement on a side-street in the heart of the city, Wokshop Cantina has been serving fresh Asian food in a sleek and modern atmosphere for over a decade now.

Don’t let the seemingly mismatched moniker “cantina”-- which technically means a small barroom, but which usually conjures up images of a novelty chain restaurant filled with Zapotec rugs and oversized margaritas -- confuse or deter you from what is a stylish urban restaurant with delicious Thai food.

With the most expensive dish costing a relatively reasonable 145 DKK and other prices dipping into the double-digit range, a meal at the Wokshop doesn’t have to be the only meal of the week. At lunch, both prices and portions shrink down, although not correspondingly. Lunch-goers can enjoy around an 80 kroner reduction (enough for two beers!) on many of the main-dishes while still leaving with a full and satisfied stomach.

In addition to having a fairly large menu (some 44 plus options) that offers a variety of rice and noodle dishes, as well as soups and starters, Wokshop Cantina is also one of the not-so-many restaurants in the city that features a tofu option.

Don’t skip over the roasted and spiced cashew nuts while you’re waiting for your main dish. The why-have-I-never-made-this-myself simple but delicious dish is a great snack alone, and perfect to sprinkle over any main dish, if you’ve managed to save any by the time your meal arrives.

On a warm summer day, try the Khao Phat Gai (#18), a fried rice dish with chicken, egg, snap peas and a lemon wedge, for something crisp and refreshing. If it’s colder and you’re looking for something more comforting, the selection of curries (red, green and yellow) will both warm and fill you up.

Besides its center-city shop, Wokshop Cantina has two additional locations, and food is available for both dine-in and take-out.
